Destination: Cuba

Key West to Cuba

Key West is the logical first stop for boaters going to Havana.  It is a 90 mile run almost straight south to the channel leading into Marina Hemingway.  Here we will purchase last minute provisions and enjoy a little Key West fantasy and funk before heading south.  July is the middle of hurricane season so a stop in Key West also allows us to alter plans if necessary should threatening weather systems form.  In the last couple of days we have had a close eye on two tropical waves brewing off the coast of Africa one of them has dissipated and the other, Tropical Storm Earl, has changed its direction and will be way off the southern coast of Cuba before our departure date.  This gives us some time to enjoy the laid back wacky-ness of this place called the Conch Republic.

We've been to Key West many times and never tire of visits to Mallory Square where the infamous street performers show off their really strange "talents".  Also, who could not appreciate the beautiful Key West sunsets.

So we toast to fair weather and calm seas and to another adventure.

WE'RE CUBA BOUND
